THE PRINCESS(ES) WORE WHITE. A London exhibition of royal gowns offers a glimpse of 200 years worth of monarchical splendor.

London’s Historic Royal Palaces unveiled a collection of royal wedding gowns on Thursday. The six dresses, worn by royal brides over the last 200 years, have been restored in advance of the March 2012 exhibition “Victoria Revealed,” at the refurbished Kensington Palace. Photos of these gowns were released in connection with the April 29 nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Queen Victoria’s wedding dress is part of the permanent collection, along with gowns belonging to Princess Charlotte, Alexandra of Denmark, Princess Mary of Teck, Princess Margaret and Princess Alexandra of Kent.

Perhaps someday a collection of similar sorts will include Kate’s much anticipated dress. — Elizabeth Semrai
