From “Star Wars” to “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” from “Jurassic Park” to “The Abyss,” from “Harry Potter” to “Iron Man 2” — Industrial Light and Magic is the legendary visual effects powerhouse behind Hollywood’s biggest movies. And now it has opened its doors to The Daily for an up-close and personal look at the groundbreaking tools of their trade.

In Part 1 of our story, we sit down with Aaron McBride, visual effects director for “Iron Man 2,” as he walks us through the incredible process of turning the barren, present day 1964-65 World’s Fair site into the brilliantly lit and thriving vista of Stark Expo.

Next week, in part 2, we travel to Skywalker Sound for a rare look at the art of blockbuster sound design.
