After a tidal wave of leaks and rumors, Apple announced an official product unveiling set for Oct. 23. And it’s the iPad mini, duh. Here’s what to expect:
Internals
It can be taken as a foregone conclusion that the iPad Mini will have the new Lightning port and at least an A5 processor under the hood. As far as storage capacity and memory, we can expect the typical options starting at 16GB and 512MB. Renders also indicate the device will have a rear-facing camera, which could very well come at 5MP. Taken together, the Mini could resemble a miniaturized iPad 2.As for cellular connectivity, don’t hold your breath. The Guardian recently reported that the new iPad will be Wi-Fi-only. This does make sense, though. Studies have shown tablets enjoying a place of privilege in the living room.
Price
German site Mobilegeeks.de claims to have obtained an inventory spreadsheet that lists a range of iPad Minis, starting at 200 pounds, or roughly $322. The leak should be taken with a grain of salt, seeing as it comes from German retailer Media Markt as opposed to sources connected to Apple. However, if the rumors pass muster, the pricing could be considered odd when the internals and display don’t justify it.
