Ann Curry’s teary ‘Today’ farewell capped pitched battle with co-host Matt Lauer
Ann Curry officially announced today what has been speculated for weeks: She’ll no longer co-host “Today” alongside Matt Lauer.
In a tearful goodbye, Curry thanked fans, calling them her “family” and apologized for not being able to “carry the ball over the finish line.”
But the weepy farewell seen by viewers was only the half of it. NBC insiders tell The Daily tensions ran high behind the scenes as “Today” staffers divided between Team Ann and Team Matt.
“It came down to her versus him with the network,” an insider said of the ratings-driven shakeup. “One of them was going to have to leave the show, and he won.” Put simply, “She hates him now.”
And many other staff members aren’t exactly huge fans either, apparently. “Everyone is walking around like someone died,” another source revealed. “This could have been handled better. She’ll be missed.”
